The speech delivered by Hojjat ul-Islam wal-Muslimin Dr. Reza Gholami, Director of the Institute for Cultural and Social Studies and head of the Permanent Secretariat of the Farabi International Festival at the honoring meeting of Dr. Dalal Abbas, the winner of the 13th Farabi International Festival, on September 27, 2022, corresponding to the 10th of Rabi Al-Awal 1444, Beirut National Library Assembly Hall:
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful, Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and upon his family, the Pure and the Innocent Ones, and the curse of Allah be upon all of their enemies.
Hello, dear professors and scholars, and it is a great pleasure to be at your service in this honorable meeting, which was organized to honor the precious lady Dr. Dalal Abbas and to present the Farabi International Award to her.
Every language is begotten by culture, but at the same time, it is the language that mutually helps to expand and deepen a culture, so it can be claimed that among the components of culture, there is no element that gives identity to a nation as much as language. Beyond this, language is so much important that it plays a significant role in the formation of discourses governing science and, accordingly, technology. Without exploring common languages, it is not possible to easily decipher the foundations of science and technology and the path of their development and evolution.
However, due to its deep connection with the semantics hidden in the text of Iranian-Islamic culture, the Persian language has such unique characteristics. Perhaps it can be claimed that the capacity of the Persian language to express the subtleties of the spiritual world is equal to the Arabic language. Examples of the rise of the Persian language to the pinnacle of expression of exalted meanings can be found in the Masnavi of Rumi, Diwan of Hafiz, and Bostan and Golestan of Saadi, which are especially forerunners in the subtle and profound expression and translation of the messages of the Holy Quran and prophetic hadiths.
It should be stated that, while the Persian language before the arrival of Islam in Iran also tends towards the expression of deep meaning derived from ancient Iranian wisdom and theology common in Iran, after the arrival of Islam, not only has it achieved amazing growth in this field, but he has also provided unparalleled services in explaining and promoting Islamic teachings.
With the glorious Islamic revolution's victory and the appealing and unique messages that the Islamic revolution presented to the world in need of spirituality and justice, the Persian language naturally drew the attention of the world's elites, particularly the Islamic world.
In such a context, it was essential for many to become acquainted not only with the discourse of the Islamic Revolution and the pure and progressive Islam that Imam Khomeini, who, while expressing his judgments, had pitted against American Islam and the eclectic and reactionary Islam, but also to continuously create a new political system under the banner of religious democracy, as well as the development of religious thought, which the Islamic Republic of Iran is pursuing. However, the arrival of Iranologists and expert translators on the scene, and their historical role in this field, was and continues to be significant.
Of course, despite the strong motivations and efforts involved in transferring epistemological developments from Iran after the Islamic Revolution, all translations, assuming they are of acceptable quality, do not exceed one-hundredth of what can be translated.
I consider the gracious lady, Dr. Dalal Abbas, to have a key position in this extraordinary situation. Dr. Dalal Abbas, in addition to attending and studying in Iran and being familiar with Iranian-Islamic culture and tradition, has touched the Islamic revolution movement at critical moments, particularly the flourishing of pure Islamic thought in Iran, and with a collection of deep and immediate experiences, while entering with purpose. In the field of contemporary Iranology, she has been instrumental in introducing the teachings of the Islamic Revolution and the Shiite line of thought to the Islamic world, particularly Lebanon, authoring or translating dozens of books and hundreds of articles.
I am pleased to express my gratitude today, on behalf of myself and the honorable Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, as well as the scientific community of the Islamic Republic of Iran, for Dr. Dalal Abbas' valuable and effective services, which undoubtedly help to bring the two culturally friendly nations of Iran and Lebanon closer together.
The awarding of the prize of the 13th Farabi International Festival, one of the most prestigious scientific awards in the Islamic world in the field of humanities and Islamic sciences, to Dr. Dalal Abbas in the presence of Ayatollah Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, demonstrates the scientific community of Iran's appreciation for Dr. Dalal Abbas. I would also like to express my pleasure in hosting this prestigious meeting to present Dr. Dalal Abbas with the Farabi Award and to recognize the scientific dignity of this distinguished Lebanese lady.
I would like to thank the Honorable Minister of Culture of Lebanon's friend and brother, His Excellency Mr. Mohammad Wissam Al-Mortaza, for his participation and presence in holding this meeting, which is equal to a celebration of the status of a genuine scholar. I am also grateful to Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslimin Komeil Bagherzadeh, the respected cultural adviser of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Beirut, for preparing the preparations for this meeting.
I pray to Almighty Allah for Dr. Dalal Abbas' health and longevity, and I hope to see new scientific works from her in the field of Iranology and Islamic Revolution studies in the future.
